Toll payment on the Austrian highways is obligatory for each vehicle above 3,5 tons. An on-board unit helps the settlement of toll which can be purchased after contracting with MOL Europe Toll. The OBU detects the exact position of the vehicle and records the distance taken.
The settlement will be calculated based on the

  • distance measured by your OBU
  • the EURO emission standard of your vehicle
  • the axle number of your vehicle.
VAT on toll

Tax relevant document

If you choose MOL Group Cards MOL Europe toll to pay the Austrian toll, you will receive your company's tax relevant document from MOL.

Invoicing period

The toll fee paid via MOL Europe toll will be bi-weekly, or as per your invoicing conditions.

In case of emergency, you can use your MOL Europe Toll Service Card, you can continue your journey cashless. You need to visit the POS of Asfinag, get prepaid OBU and top up with the card.

How to use any OBU during your journey in Austria:

  • Set the number of axles, as indicated on User Manual.
  • In the event that the axles are not set correctly and / or data on the document does not correspond to the vehicle, the customer will be subject to a fine, completely at his charge
  • All vehicle related details need to be stored on the Vehicle Declaration, that will be always sent to the customer together with user Manual,
  • The Final Customer needs to make sure he gets a vehicle declaration.
    • Check the data’s correctness
    • Carry it in the vehicle at all times as it has to be available on demand.
    • Identification at GO point of sale (retroactive payment…)
  • If there already is an existing contract…
    • give back the GO-Box on a GO point of sale
    • deregister Toll2GO or Emotach
    • It is important to not use more than a device in one vehicle to prevent malfunctions and double charges that will be exclusively liability of the customer.
  • Check the functionality of the OBU (If the OBU is not functioning, the driver has to contact the MOL . If a timely replacement is not possible, the driver may purchase a GO-Box)
  • Mount the device correctly on the windscreen

What to do when there is any issue with the OBU:

During a journey – driver obligation:

  • Ensure that the device is installed on the right position at all times, otherwise it can not be guaranteed that the toll is paid.
  • Pay attention to acoustic signals :
    • 1 x beep = transaction OK (toll paid based on the number of axles and the stored EURO emission category)
    • 2x beeps = Transit recorded but battery dying or contract expiring, contact your local dealer.
    • 4 x beeps = transaction is not OK, no payment.
    • No beep = transaction is not OK, no payment.
  • IN CASE OF NO PAYMENT:
    • React immediately and visit a GO point of sale within 5h and100 km.
    • GO point of sales are located near/ on the Austrian highways and motorways.

After a journey – driver obligation:

  • Check if the device still operates.
  • In case the number of axles was not correctly set, a retroactive payment is possible within 96h by calling the ASFINAG Service Center (with an accepted means of payment MOL service card or bank card), calling the number 0800 400 12 400 in Austria, Germany and Switzerland or the number +43 1 955 12 66 in other countries and providing the informations contained on vehicle declaration (PAN, Telepass EU OBUID, plate, number of axles, Euro vehicle class, Euro pollution class), the details of transaction(date and hour) and details about means of payment. The payment will not be possible with the Telepass OBU, but it would be needed a credit/debit/fuel card accepted (see the complete list of accepted card on www.asfinag.com)
